Why does tile installation cost more?
Tile requires thinset, setting, grouting, and curing — and every obstacle (vanity, tub, doorway) adds significant cut time. Ontario tile installers typically charge $4–$8/sq ft for a standard bathroom, rising to $15–$20/sq ft for complex layouts.
What's NOT in the labour estimate?
Demo and disposal ($0.50–$2/sq ft), subfloor screw-down or levelling ($0.75–$2/sq ft), quarter round or baseboard (~$1.50/linear ft), underlayment, and furniture moving. These can add $2–5/sq ft to your total.
Why add 10% waste?
Cuts around walls, doorways, and corners always produce offcuts. 10% is standard for straight layouts — go 15% for diagonal or herringbone, and 15–20% for carpet sold in rolls.
How many quotes should I get?
At least 3. Ontario homeowners report a range of $5.50–$12/sq ft all-in for laminate — the spread is real. A connected installer or off-season booking can save significantly.
